Anti-Patterns

In one of my favorite books there is an episode, where the main character takes a younger apprentice through a very dangerous area. At one point he says: “See that small red heap of wretched cloths there? The map says “Here lays Pete”. Or, what’s left of him. He lays there to show smart people where they should not go.”

Have you ever read a report titled “5 Deadly Marketing Mistakes” or “What you don’t know can kill you: 7 Ultimate SEO Sins”? That’s what anti-patterns are.

Anti-patterns are the opposite of what patterns are. An anti-pattern is a recipe for a failure. Why would you want to know a recipe for a failure? To avoid it. To make sure that you don’t do it, even by accident.
