Summary:
A name squeeze page is a landing page working as a gateway to some desirable content, and only allowing access to that content after some customer action, normally subscription to the mailing list.
Name of the pattern:
Name squeeze page
Squeeze page
Description:
In a sense, a name squeeze page is an order page for some free service or content. Juts like in a sale, you don’t make that free content available to a visitor unless he “pays”, but in this case the payment is his registration.
Just like with a normal sale, consider using free bonuses and upselling in combination with this pattern.
Some Internet marketers consider name squeeze pages a bit too heavy handed, and use a mailing list subscription pop-up instead, which still gives a reasonable conversion rate. Consider how desirable your free content or service is to decide whether a name squeeze page is for you or if a pop-up would work better. Just having a traditional subscription box somewhere on the page is known to give a much lower conversion rate than either a name squeeze page or pop-up.
A name squeeze page is almost exclusively used for mailing lists conversions. Let me know if you invent other usages.
When to use this pattern:
When you need to build your mailing list or some other free membership.
