Originally, the term "deeplinking" come from the early Internet times, when consistency of the links was not considered that importnat, resulting in links to specific pages often going broke. Also, some media companies was very rigid about deeplinking to the specific pages on their sites and threatened with legal actions against those who'd dare to link to a specific page on their site. That idiocy aside, Google era Internet makes links to the specific pages on your site (unless that's a product download page) very welcome and important.
